Former ‘Glee’ Star Naya Rivera Is Reportedly Divorced From Her Husband Ryan Dorsey
It's offically over for Naya Rivera and her husband Ryan Dorsey. The Glee actress had originally filed for divorce from her husband in November 2016 after just two years of marriage, but the couple reconciled the follwing year. But she filed again in December 2017 after an alleged domestic violence incident, and now their divorce has finally been finalized.
Naya and Ryan were declared officially divorced on Thursday, June 14, according to court documents obtained by The Blast. The couple will share custody of their two-year-old son Josey. They each both waived support payments for each other, but Ryan was paid a one-time payment of $30,000 from Naya.
Back in October 2017, sources confirmed that Naya and Ryan were trying to work on their marriage after a brief separation. "She is back together with Ryan. They want to make it work for the sake of their son," a source revealed to E! News at the time. Unfortunately though, things quickly took a nasty turn.
Just one month after the estranged couple reunited, Naya was arrested for domestic battery after she allegedly assaulted Ryan over Thanksgiving weekend while fighting over their son, according to E! News. The following month, she refiled for divorce and cited their separation as Nov. 24, one day before their big blowout. She claimed the reason for the split was irreconcilable differences. In the original November 2016 divorce filing, Naya also cited irreconcilable differences.
"After much consideration, we have made the decision to end our marriage," Ryan and Naya said a joint statement after announcing their split. "Our priority is and always will be our beautiful son that we share together. We will continue to be great co-parenting partners for him. We ask for respect and privacy for our family during this difficult time."
The 31-year-old famously tied the knot with Ryan, 34, in a super secret wedding ceremony in Mexico back in 2014 — just a few months after ending her engagement to rapper Big Sean.
Naya and Ryan had a whirlwind romance and even though they were together for only a short period of time before tying the knot, they still went through a lot as a couple. The Sorry Not Sorry author revealed in her memoir that she had an abortion when she first started dating the actor several years ago. "You know, I put in the book, like, verbatim what he said, and I think it was the kindest and the best thing that any man could have ever said in that situation, she wrote. "And it just made me love him that much more, so I’m thankful for that."
