Paris Jackson Gets Matching Tattoos With Her Godfather Macaulay Culkin — Find out What They Mean!

Nothing says forever like a real tattoo! Paris Jackson and her godfather Macaulay Culkin made their bond permanent by getting matching tattoos together on Saturday, July 29, and the daughter of the late music icon Michael Jackson took to Instagram to document their new ink!

Paris, 19, shared a close-up photo of her new tat using the story feature on Instagram. In the shot, she held her arm close to Macaulay’s as they showed off their matching spoon designs. In another shot, their new tats were still visible and they both flashed smiles for the camera.

Although Paris and Macaulay, 36, have yet to explain the meaning behind their new ink, spoons are a symbol of the “spoon theory,” which is meant to describe what it’s like for people who suffer from chronic pain and fatigue, according to The Guardian. The theory suggests that people only have a certain amount of spoons to use throughout their day, and some daily tasks require the use of more spoons than others. If a person says they are “running low on spoons,” then it means that they have reached their limit and need to rest, and people who follow the spoon theory refer to themselves as “spoonies.”

Paris has been open with her struggle with mental health in the past, and she got extremely candid about it in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year. She said that in 2013 — four years after her father’s death — she went into a deep depression and she also struggled with drug addiction. She even admitted that she had attempted suicide “multiple times” before she was 15 years old, and she used self-harm as a way to deal with her pain.

She used tattoos as a way to cover up the scars from her cutting, but her other tattoos also symbolize happiness. Out of her 50 tattoos, nine of them are dedicated to her dad. “He’s brought me nothing but joy,” she said at the time. “So why not have constant reminders of joy?”
