This is so not OK. On July 5, Ariana Grande took to social media to defend an off-color joke her fiancé, Pete Davidson, made about the Manchester bombing.

According to BuzzFeed, months before Pete and Ariana started dating, the Saturday Night Live star reportedly quipped that "Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert" because she wasn’t famous enough. Though the tasteless remark was made during a Puerto Rico hurricane relief event in fall 2017, it has recently resurfaced and needless to say, Ariana's fans are furious.

The bombing — which took place at the end of an Ariana Grande concert — was responsible for claiming the lives of 22 people, as well as injuring hundreds of others. Charlotte Hodgson, who lost her 15-year-old daughter during the attack, expressed her outrage over Pete’s comment. "For anyone to joke about this situation is disgusting and I think he should publicly apologize for it," she told the Mirror. "The families will find it equally as disgusting."

In addition, Jane Clough, a survivor of the bombing, voiced her grief. "I’m still suffering on a daily basis, I still have nightmares, and Ariana herself has suffered from PTSD. What the hell?" she explained to the Mirror.

Until July 5, Ariana seemingly chose to ignore the scandal entirely. However, it seems that one fan’s tweet prompted a response. "I respect Ariana and I want her to be happy and everything," the fan began. "But she was just broken after the Manchester bombing, so I don’t know why she is still with Pete," they continued. "Like yeah, he made that joke a while ago, but like it’s not funny, it’s just rude. This is my opinion," the fan concluded.

"This has been [very] tough [and] conflicting on my heart," the "No Tears Left to Cry" singer responded in defense of Pete. "[Pete] uses comedy to help [people] feel better [about] how f—ed up things in this world are," she continued. "We all deal with trauma differently. I, of course, didn’t find it funny. It was months ago [and] his intention wasn’t/is never malicious, but it was unfortunate."

At this time, Pete has yet to comment on the situation, let alone apologize. Here’s hoping that he owns up to his insensitivity instead of having Ariana come to his rescue.
