Meghan Markle Wants to Be Like Princess Diana, but Maybe She Should Reconsider That

Millions of people plan to watch Meghan Markle tie the knot with Prince Harry in what might be the biggest royal wedding of the decade. After all, people are obsessed with the "fairytale" fantasy of being a princess and living happily ever after. But sadly, reality is nothing like a Disney animated film, and although Meghan reportedly wants to be "Princess Diana 2.0," maybe she should learn more about the late princess' life first.

When Diana married Prince Charles in 1981, she was a shy 19-year-old who went from being a relatively normal Londoner to being on the front page of every tabloid. The pressure was immense, and Diana would later reveal in interviews and uncovered audio tapes how much fame and pressure from the royal family caused her to suffer from bulimia to depression. "She just felt the public didn’t really know who she was," Andrew Morton, author of Diana: Her Story, told FOX News. "They were responding to a two-dimensional image. This kind of media cut-out… she felt like she was enduring a lonely miserable life inside the palace and outside, she was adored… it was incredibly frustrating as far as she was concerned because everyone still believed in the fairy tale. And she knew it was a nightmare."

Although on the outside Diana looked to have a perfect life, she was suffering in private. She found life in the palace boring and was completely uninterested in her list of royal duties, which mostly consisted of shaking hands and attending dinners. Her frustration would later ignite her successful attempt at modernizing the royal family, shifting them from outdated robots to empathetic people with charitable inclinations. Although Diana would later morph into "the People's Princess," the constant frenzy and publicity around her caused her hidden anguish that was far from a fairy tale. Below, 10 moments from Diana's life that prove Meghan should be careful with what she's signed up for.
