How nice! Meghan Markle‘s beloved mom, Doria Ragland, has been invited to spend Christmas with the royal family at Queen Elizabeth‘s famed Sandringham Estate, in what sources told the Sunday Express was a “very thoughtful gesture.”

“It’s a mark of the Queen’s respect for Meghan and an acknowledgment that she doesn’t have any other relations in this country — unlike Kate who has the support of a very close family,” a royal insider told the Sunday Express.

The British magazine Heat World was the first to report the news. Sources said that after Doria, 62, flew from LA to London to join Meghan, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, at the launch of her daughter’s charity cookbookTogether, in late-September, the proud mom decided to also spend the holidays with Meghan and Harry. And, when the 92-year-old Queen heard about Doria’s plans, she allegedly invited her to Christmas dinner at Sandringham.

“[Queen Elizabeth] is very aware of all the problems Meghan has with her dad and sister, and she feels sorry for her that she doesn’t have family and a support network close by,” an insider said of the monarch’s decision to invite Doria to spend the holidays with the royals.

According to Heat World, Doria’s coveted invitation wasn’t well-received by everyone. Apparently, Kate Middleton’s mom, Carole Middleton, “was less than pleased when she found out.” The source continued, “She can’t help but feel snubbed. She has never been asked to join the royal household for Christmas, and she would love to be regarded as part of the royal family.”

“Like any mother, Carole is fiercely protective of her kids, and is already watching for evidence that the Queen favors Meghan over Kate — this is all the proof she needs as far as she is concerned. She doesn’t like the way Meghan seems to be stealing Kate’s spotlight,” the insider continued.

Sadly, Meghan and Harry won’t be spending Christmas with Kate and her husband, Prince William, as the Cambridges will reportedly join the Middletons over the holiday. “Ever since they’ve had kids they have alternated, and this year, they’ll be at the Middleton home in Berkshire, [England],” the source said.
