Celebrities Have Been Wearing Rei Kawakubo’s Fashion for Years — Take a Look Before the Met Gala!

There’s only a few hours left before the 2017 Met Gala kicks off, and all fashionistas can talk about is this year’s honorary, Rei Kawakubo, who founded the Japanese label Comme des Garçons in 1973.

Whether or not you consider yourself style savvy, you’ve no doubt seen the 74-year-old designer’s work, which often features the brand’s famed heart with eyes logo.

“Rei Kawakubo is one of the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years,” Andrew Bolton, curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, told Vogue of the decision behind this year’s theme. “By inviting us to rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, recreation, and hybridity, she has defined the aesthetics of our time.”

As for what he wants to see from attendees, the Brit admitted, “I hope there will be a lot of avant-garde fashion. I would love for mistakes to happen.” He’d also like to continue to demonstrate that “fashion is a living art.”

While Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams are acting as co-chairs this year, we hope Lady Gaga will make an appearance at the star-studded bash, given that she’s worn the label’s more flamboyant designs in the past.
