As one of the eight leading ladies of Ocean’s 8, Rihanna helps to pull off an audacious jewel heist at the most fashionable event of the year, the Met Gala. But us devoted followers of Ri-Ri already know that off-screen, too, our girl isn’t averse to pulling off some (albeit lower key) little heists of her own — we’re talking, of course, about the singer and part time actress meme-friendly penchant for walking out of a club, restaurant, or even a fashion show with a wine glass in hand. What happens to these wine glasses? Are the club owners a little perturbed that Rihanna has walked off with their crystal wear, or do they instead embrace it as a brilliant photo opportunity? And does Ri-Ri have a shelf devoted to these ill-gotten glass trophies, much like a kleptomaniac university undergraduate would have?

When Rihanna appeared on the Graham Norton Show sofa this week, along with her Ocean’s castmates Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, and Helena Bonham Carter, we finally seemed to arrive at an explanation for Rihanna’s wine glass habit — albeit a very cryptic, mysterious one (this is Rihanna we are talking about, after all). “I’m not suggesting that any of you are actual criminals,” Graham addressed the stars, but all I’m saying is watch yourselves around Rihanna. At this point Ri gives the presenter a look that’s the perfect ‘Who, me?’ expression of total innocence — before being confronted with photo evidence of her glasswear theft. Then, as any good scammer would do, she starts to play the “perfectly reasonable explanation” card.

“That might have been one that I took to a club — it’s crystal!” she explains when faced with the first picture; then, for a later picture (because there were many, many to choose from, she protests, “I took that back to the hotel that I took it from.” So, it seems there might be more to Ri’s sneaky “thefts” than meets the eye — or is there? Watch to the end of the clip and you’ll see the singer looking a little sheepish about the fact that her “mom is gonna watch this…”
