This is heartbreaking. Rosie O’Donnell is mourning the loss of her ex-wife, Michelle Rounds, who died on Monday of an apparent suicide. In a statement, Rosie’s rep told TMZ, “I am saddened to hear about this terrible tragedy. Mental illness is a very serious issue affecting many families. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle’s family, her wife, and their child.”

Rosie, 55, and Michelle, 46, started dating in 2011 and got married the following year in June. Shortly thereafter, they adopted their now-four-year-old daughter Dakota. In November 2014, they ended their relationship — and the former television host filed for divorce in February 2015.

Months later, in September 2015, Michelle was taken to a hospital following an apparent overdose. It was later reported to be a suicide attempt, which Rosie successfully talked her former spouse out of.

Michelle’s mother confirmed her death with a statement. “If anyone would like to give to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, it would also be greatly appreciated,” she said. “There are so many out there in this world that have demons that they think suicide is the only way out.”

Michelle is survived by Dakota, and another child with her current wife, Krista. Our thoughts are with Michelle’s loved ones at this time.

If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
