On Wednesday, May 16, Meghan Markle‘s half-sister Samantha was hospitalized with a “possible” broken ankle after she claimed she had a run-in with the paparazzi on a Florida highway. However, it is now being reported that there is no evidence to back up Samantha’s claims that a car accident took place.

According to Samantha’s boyfriend, Mark, who was driving at the time, the couple was driving home when a photographer “veered in front” of them near a toll booth causing him swerve and hit a concrete barrier. Meghan’s sister was in the passenger seat and hit the windshield and fell to the floor mat. Samantha, who suffers from multiple sclerosis was unable to lift herself up and allegedly twisted her foot. Mark took her to the hospital — a photo of which miraculously appeared on TMZ‘s homepage shortly after.

Now, it seems there is no evidence to prove that any sort of accident took place. The Daily Mail reached out to the Florida Highway Patrol and after a three hour search through their database came back with no proof that Samantha and Mark’s car hit any barrier. “Even if they hit a stationary property such as a wall under Florida law you are required to report that to law enforcement,” Lt. Kim Montes told the outlet. “If you didn’t, that’s considered to be a hit and run.”

To make matters worse, there are no toll booths near Samantha’s home in Ocala, Fl. “We checked by her name, we checked by his name and we didn’t find any reports. So we don’t know if this actually happened,” Lt. Montes added. “We can’t find any reports basically from all of central Florida. We can’t find a report by name or a scenario that was similar to this.” According to the law enforcement official, if there was a collison and no report was filed, the driver is looking at a second degree misdemeanor property damage charge punishable with up to 60 days in prison or a $500 fine. Samantha can also face a fine for seemingly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the alleged incident.

If Samantha’s story sounds familiar, it coule be because Prince Harry‘s mom, Princess Diana, was killed in a car accident in Paris while trying to shake off paparazzi. Samantha has been making headlines since it was announced her half-sister would be marrying the royal — even admitting to staging those “candid” photos of their dad Thomas Markle Jr.

“The bad press over my father doing staged photos is my fault,” she tweeted. “The media was unfairly making him look bad so I suggested he do positive photos for his benefit and the benefit of the royal family. We had no idea he would be taken advantage of. It was not for money.”
