The Spice Girls Just Revealed What “Zig-A-Zig-Ah” Means and We Did Not See This Coming

In news sure to make you stop right now (thank you very much), an anonymous co-writer of the Spice Girls‘ 1996 hit “Wannabe” has solved one of the music industry’s greatest mysteries. That’s right. More than two decades after the iconic track’s release, we’re finally finding out just why we really, really, really want to “zig-a-zig-ah.”

We’ve long suspected the puzzling lyric suggested something ~sexual~, perhaps a bit of horizontal tango-ing or, to put it bluntly, an earth-shattering orgasm, but as it happens, we couldn’t have been more wrong.

Sh-t and cigars. Apparently, that’s what the iconic lyric is actually saying. Yes, you read that right, and yes we’re just as confused as you are. The unsavory combination of words was actually inspired by a nickname the gals had for a person whom they shared their Shoreditch studio with back in the ’90s.

“This guy had this nasty habit of taking a dump in the shared khazi (toilet) while smoking a cigar, so we took to referring to him as ‘Sh-t and Cigars,'” the writer told The Sun.

And it’s not the only hidden message within the song. The insider also claimed that Mel B’s quick-fire verse contained an alleged reference to two of the band members having sex while under the influence of illicit drugs.

The lyric “We got G (being Geri Halliwell) like MC (Melanie Chisholm) who likes it on an E” reportedly refers to the drug ecstasy.

We’ll never be able to listen to that song the same way again!
