It was in 1996 that Steve Burns — well, he’s typically known as just Steve — became a household name. We’re of course talking about the hit Nickelodeon show Blue’s Clues that technically ended in 2007, but really died after Steve was replaced with Joe. Well, anyway, today is everyone’s favorite green-stripe-wearing, mail-getting, forever-dancing TV host’s 44th birthday, so we think it’s time to celebrate! Watch the video below to see what Steve looks like today:

Since he left TV, Steve’s kept a relatively low profile, though a death hoax had fans reeling a few years back. In 2016, he sat down with Huffington Post to talk about his decision to leave the show that made him famous.

“People think I left the show to pursue a music career. That didn’t happen at all,” he told the outlet. “I left the show because it was just simply time to go. I was pretty much playing a boyish, older-brotherish kind of character on the show. I was getting older; I was losing my hair; a lot of the original gangsters on the show, like the people who created it, were all moving on to other careers. It just felt like time. I just had a gut feeling like it was time to go.”

Though he didn’t leave for music, Steve did end up releasing a children’s album. “I certainly wasn’t leaving Blue’s Clues to pursue a large music career because that never even happened,” he said. “That was just a wonderful dream come true, [a] hobby thing that happened after Blue’s Clues.” Well, happy birthday, Steve!
