He was the viral star of the 2018 Super Bowl halftime show! Ryan McKenna quickly became a meme after a screenshot of him fumbling around with his cell phone while trying to take a selfie with Justin Timberlake during his performance, even though it seemed like he was distracted with his phone and basically ignored the pop star standing right next to him! But that wasn't the case, Ryan the Super Bowl Selfie Kid is actually a huge Justin fan and he explained the reason for the viral moment during an interview with the Today show.

“Yeah, I had to post it but I’m a huge Justin Timberlake fan," the 13-year-old said. "That was my favorite song, 'Can’t Stop the Feeling,' so I was just so excited that he was right there and he was playing that song. So the story on my Instagram has gotten like 60,000 views and I went up to like 12,000 followers now.”

Ryan explained that he didn't know that the moment was going to happen at all, which is why he looked so shocked. "There was a Super Bowl halftime lady and she, like, said that we were in a special section," he explained on Good Morning America. "He just came up, and I just, like, jumped right in there with him. And he stopped right in our row so it was perfect."

The teen also said that he was recording a video on his phone at the moment that Justin came up to his row, so he was trying to stop the video so that he could take a selfie with the singer — which is why he was looking down at his screen for a few moments — but social media users still have a field day and created hilarious memes using a screengrab of Ryan's facial expression.
