Vanessa Hudgens wowed everyone last night with her incredible performance as Rizzo in Grease: Live, and she surely made her father proud.
The night before her big performance, the 27-year-old actress took to Twitter to reveal that her father had passed away from stage 4 cancer, and that she would "do the show in his honor."
And while she remained cool and collected on stage, it's being reported that she had a “hysterical breakdown” backstage once the show ended.
“Everyone was really trying to just make sure that she was okay,” a source told Radar.
After finding out the news of her father, the actress was under no obligation to perform in Grease: Live, in fact, there was a substitute prepped to fill-in. However, Vanessa insisted that it was important to her to be in the show.
“Vanessa said that her dad really wanted to watch her do this because Grease was one of his favorite films of all time. She had to make him proud," the source added.
“Of course she was crying after the show wrapped. But she was just surrounded by so much love and support that everyone knows she will get through this.”
Mario Lopez put it perfectly after the show, posting a pic of Vanessa as Rizzo and writing, "Special shout out to my girl @vanessahudgens . Imagine if you had the day she had & then performed like that. Wow.. What a strong woman. My new hero."
Our thoughts are with Vanessa and her family during this difficult time.
