Yaaass, queen!

ConDRAGulations are in order for Sasha Velour, who was just announced as the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 on the Friday, June 23, finale of the hit VH1 series. The feisty contestant nabbed a stunning victory after slaying the stage in a historic four-way lip sync smackdown.

To celebrate Sasha’s triumph, let’s take a look back at what she’s said about her journey on the latest season of RPDR.

Sasha Velour

The Brooklyn resident — who often showcased her bald head on the show in support of her late mother who died of cancer — opened up about her passion to win while speaking to LogoTV.com in February.

“I’m an intense competitor. I love to win! I love to take a challenge and transform it to really work for me,” Sasha said at the time. “And I’m excited about this competition!”

Though she totally deserved the crown, we have to acknowledge the other finalists — Trinity “Tuck” Taylor, Shea Couleé, and Peppermint — who also proved themselves to be worthy competitors. Read on below to see what they’ve said about almost making it to the finish line.

Shea Couleé

The Chicago native — who gained notoriety for her epic impression of Blac Chyna during this season’s Kardashian: The Musical challenge — always had her eye on the prize. In a recent interview with The Chicago Tribune, Shea said she had to constantly remind herself to follow her instincts.

“I would definitely say that throughout the show I kind of had to check my own neuroses and negative voices and trust my instincts and go for it," Shea said. "Because it's not an environment where you can second-guess yourself."

Peppermint

Peppermint, who lives in NYC, is the first transgender queen to ever make it as a finalist in the history of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Earlier this month, she told PopSugar how her gender identity has impacted her career and her experience in the competition.

“It was all packaged in introducing myself as a drag performer — as a trans woman who does drag — to the world," she told the website. "I hadn't really done that, even though I've been doing drag for a long time. And even though I'd been out for a while, and I'd certainly been out as trans for a while, people were getting their first taste of me. But the flavor's a little different than what they were used to with other queens. … My experience as a trans woman who does drag … it's always been my own.”

The Orlando-based performer — who is known for her impeccable “tuck” among the drag community — expressed her desire to conquer the competition in an interview with LogoTV.com weeks before Season 9 premiered on March 24.

“I come from pageants, so I’m very competitive. I came here to win,” Trinity said at the time. “So that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna claw my way to the top!”
