Say it ain’t so! Fans are devastated after finding out one of YouTube‘s most beloved couples, Lauren Riihimaki (aka LaurDIY) and Alex Wassabi, decided to break up after three years together. They announced their shocking split in an emotional video posted on Sept. 15.

“Basically, we just feel like we both need specific things and we’re not fully on the same page and we need to take time apart. So for us to come back better and stronger, we have to take time and focus on ourselves,” she said while holding back tears as Alex comforted her.

It was very difficult for the exes to make the video, but they felt compelled to share the news with fans. “I want you guys to hear it from us, we don’t hate each other and it’s not the end of the world,” she said. Lauren and Alex agreed it was the “best three years” of their lives. Both confirmed there was no cheating involved, no jealousy issues, or any new love interests

Lauren also revealed they wouldn’t be deleting old YouTube videos together or completely erasing each other from their lives. She noted: “It’s out of the blue for us. It’s not like we’ve been on the rocks.” The 25-year-old said they just decided to have the talk before going forward with their relationship. “We kind of just had to have a serious conversation about where we were, and where we are headed,” she shared. “To be on that same page, we have to make some personal changes. It doesn’t mean that we’re not going to see each other.”

“We’re both going to take a short break from YouTube, which I’ve never done in my life,” she admitted. “We both need time to be with family and reflect.” Lauren revealed they will have exciting new content when they return, but it will be hard to get back in the swing of things. “It doesn’t mean were not going through stuff off camera,” Lauren said. “We’re real people, this is a real relationship. We just happen to have millions of people that are also involved.”

They’re still best friends and Alex, 28, said he’ll always love her. “We wouldn’t be breaking up if we didn’t think there was a better future ahead,” Lauren continued. “There’s no hard feelings. There’s no resentment, no anger.” Alex also said if she ends up falling madly in love with someone else, he’d gladly be her “maid of honor” even though he doesn’t want to marry anyone else. “Don’t take sides or start rumors. It’s all love,” he told viewers.

Taking to Twitter, Lauren later showed her appreciation for all the kind words. “I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s reached out to check on both of us and offer love and support, it means the world to me and I’m so lucky to have all of you,” she wrote. “Please continue to have faith in true love because I promise that it exists and its so real and powerful.”
