It’s the first Monday in May, which means it’s time for the 2017 Met Gala — and the iconic red carpet that precedes it!
The annual event brings out the biggest names in both Hollywood and the fashion industry to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year’s benefit honors Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, who founded the label Comme des Garçons in 1973.
“Rei Kawakubo is one of the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years,” Andrew Bolton, the exhibit’s curator, explained to Vogue. “By inviting us to rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, recreation, and hybridity, she has defined the aesthetics of our time.”
