Rapper Bad Bunny Beats Out Taylor Swift, Returns as Spotify’s Global Top Artist for 2025 Wrapped

Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny, known as the “king of Latin trap,” has reclaimed his spot as the number one artist on Spotify this year with more than 19.8 billion streams globally in 2025.

His latest album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, (which translates to “I Should Have Taken More Photos”) was released on January 5, 2025 and skyrocketed to popularity, holding steady streams on the platform across the world throughout the year.

This is Bad Bunny’s sixth solo studio album and seventh overall in his career.

The album also won Album of the Year at the Latin Grammy’s in November.

During his acceptance speech for the award, he said, “I want to dedicate this award to all the children and young people of Latin America, especially those of Puerto Rico. Never stop dreaming, never stop being yourselves, no matter where you come from. Never forget where you come from, but never forget where you are going.”

Bad Bunny is also no stranger to being on the top of the Spotify charts.

In fact, he has been the Global Top Artist more times than anyone else in Spotify Wrapped history.

This year is his fourth time claiming the title of Global Top Artist, with three previous back-to-back wins in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

In 2023 and 2024, Bad Bunny was unseated by American pop superstar Taylor Swift.

However, this year, Swift has dropped down to the number two spot on the list, in part due to her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, being released in the latter half of the year, therefore giving it less time to rack up streams.

This achievement for Bad Bunny comes as he looks ahead to his performance as headliner at the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

He is set to make history with the performance as the first artist to perform a halftime show with a largely Spanish-language set.

The decision drew backlash from American conservatives, including President Donald Trump, who was quoted in an interview with Newsmax saying, “I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s, like, crazy.”

National Football League (NFL) commissioner Roger Goodell defended the choice to have Bad Bunny headline the halftime show during an October 22 press conference, saying, “He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world. That’s what we try to achieve. It’s an important stage for us. It’s an important element to the entertainment value. It’s carefully thought through.”

Now, Bad Bunny’s record-breaking Spotify Wrapped ranking only reinforces his popularity worldwide as he gears up to make history again as he performs at the big game.
