There's a reason dogs are considered man's best friend. One Chihuahua in upstate New York is proving her unwavering loyalty, refusing to budge from her previous owner's gravesite following her death in September.

"Dite and my mother were inseparable," Theresa Marinay told Inside Edition of the strong bond between her late mom and her pet. "Wherever my mother went, Dite followed." She even snuck Dite into the hospital where her 86-year-old mother was being treated for congestive heart failure.

Theresa and her husband Mike took in the five-year-old pup following her death, and despite the fact that it has been four months since her passing, Dite continues to go straight to her "grandma's" grave and lay down every time they visit the cemetery. "Is my mother's spirit still here?" Theresa asked. "I don't know. I don't know. It does bring me comfort to be here and I think it brings her comfort too."

This story pulled at the heartstrings of many viewers, who opened up about their pets. "My Chihuahua loves me this much I think often about when she passes IDK what I'll do but she's eight and in great health thank God," one commenter wrote before another suggested, "They should get her a doggo friend. The same thing happened with my neighbor's dog Pepper… she got her a dog friend and my neighbor says it helped with Pepper's depression over her master passing away."

This is not the first time a dog has shown its loyalty to its owner beyond the grave. In 2011, following the death of Navy SEAL Jon T. Tumilson, his dog Hawkeye was photographed lying by his casket — where he remained for his entire funeral service. ‘Hawkeye is/was his loyal ‘son’,” Jon's cousin Lisa Pembleton wrote in an email to The Blaze. “To say that he was an amazing man doesn’t do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family, and friends is immeasurable.” BRB, need some more tissues.
