She does it all! Jennifer Lopez is an actress, a singer, a dancer — and a healthy eater! “It’s a job,” the 49-year-old superstar has said of sticking to her diet, which avoids salt, sugar, carbs, dairy, and processed foods, noting that everything she puts on her plate “is fresh.” And that’s not all. J.Lo doesn’t smoke, nor does she drink alcohol, soda, or coffee! “I haven’t had caffeine in years,” she’s admitted, claiming the popular vices “wreck your skin as you get older.”

The star typically starts her day with a low-calorie whey protein chocolate shake. “I do it with quinoa milk or water,” the “Dinero” singer explained, adding that the protein boost helps her stave off hunger.

Throughout the day, J.Lo lightly snacks on fruits and organic veggies like cucumber, celery, or Brussels sprouts with a splash of vinaigrette. She also cites turkey breast as a great option between meals. “Protein is my go-to whenever I start having cravings,” shared the star. “It fills me up and keeps me full longer. It’s a great muscle fuel.” Her second meal usually includes a veggie-packed salad — think broccoli, peppers, and zucchini — and salmon. If she dines out, “most restaurants offer healthy low-calorie meals, so I watch for things on the menu that fit my lifestyle,” she explained.

At dinner, J.Lo will typically serve a different type of protein, like chicken or pork, with quinoa. And to make sure it’s done right, she also does the cooking. “I love cooking Puerto Rican food because that’s what I grew up on,” the Bronx native explained, adding that she tries to eat with her kids, 10-year-old twins Emme and Maximilian, around 6:30 p.m. “I really believe that when you take care of yourself and work to stay healthy, you’re better able to take care of those you love,” she shared.

It isn’t just food that keeps J.Lo in tip-top condition. Whether she’s on tour, on set or at home, the entertainer works out three to four days a week. “When I’m in L.A., I work with Tracy Anderson,” she shared. “When I’m in New York, I work out with David Kirsch… I like the balance that they both give me.”

As for what goes on in their training sessions, according to Tracy — who also works with Gwyneth Paltrow — “We just freestyle.” The pair will do three-pound arm weights with “butt and thigh moves that incorporate the core. We want to keep those famous curves.”

Meanwhile, David’s approach concentrates on strength training with plenty of planks, pushups, and boxing. He puts the star through a boot camp that’s “a bit of everything,” he’s said, until her muscles “shake and burn.”

J.Lo also emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated during training sessions. “Drinking plenty of water, especially before a workout, can help you push harder and get more out of your exercise routine,” she explained.

Given her busy schedule, the superstar admits hitting the gym isn’t always easy to do. After all, she serves as a judge on World of Dance, recently wrapped the final season of her TV series, Shades of Blue, and is prepping for Bye Bye Birdie Live! on NBC. Her latest movie, Second Act, which hit theaters in November, and she just completed a new Spanish album, Por Primera Vez (“For the First Time”). Phew!

“It’s just talking yourself off the ledge of being a lazy bum,” she joked about squeezing in a workout, which she usually manages first thing in the morning. “It just loosens up my body, gets me ready, keeps me strong. You know, injuries come when the muscles get weak or you overwork them. So you have to keep them strong, too.”

Still, she’d love more sleep, the pop star admitted: “A good nine or 10 hours — but I can never get that. Seven or eight is mandatory. If I don’t get it I just don’t feel right.”
