Jessica Simpson’s ‘Dream’ to Be a Pop Star Is ‘Still Alive’: She ‘Sees an Opportunity’

Jessica Simpson was teasing a “soundtrack of her life” in a bizarre new Instagram post – and a source exclusively tells Life & Style she’s still got a major itch to scratch with her music career, dating way back to her time with boy bander Nick Lachey.

“First and foremost, Jessica is a survivor. She’s still famous, 25 years into the game, she still makes a lot of money and people still care about what’s going on in her life,” the source shares. “Music is not her main moneymaker right now, and that’s OK. But she still has an itch to scratch in that department and, knowing her, she would kill for the chance to do a Super Bowl halftime show or a big Christmas TV special where she does nothing but sing.”

The insider admits that the “With You” singer, 44, “has had cringe music moments and she’s very aware of them.”

“Like her notorious ‘Who Will Save Your Soul’ duet with Jewel, but Jessica is genuinely talented and when she can get herself in the pocket, audiences go nuts,” Life & Style’s source reveals. “It was never her dream to be a business mogul or a reality TV star, but it was always her dream to be a pop star and have songs on the radio. That dream is still alive and Jessica sees an opportunity!”

Jessica previously shaded the 2004 performance with Jewel via Instagram in 2018.

“The moment I felt my career explode. Thank you @jewel #wcw,” the former MTV star captioned the post alongside a clip of the live performance.

As for Jessica’s return to music, she’s been dedicated to the hustle amid marriage woes with estranged husband Eric Johnson. She confirmed their separation on Monday, January 13, after more than 10 years of marriage.

“Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” the Dukes of Hazzard star told People at the time. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Jessica and Eric, 45, share kids Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5.

In October 2024, Life & Style reported that the singer and former NFL star’s marriage was “pretty much over.”

“They tried couples counseling, which worked for a while, but then things went back to the way they were,” a second insider exclusively told Life & Style at the time. “They don’t spend nearly as much time together as they used to, and they’ve just grown apart.”

The estranged couple sparked split rumors months before when Jessica shared a cryptic Instagram post while calling her upcoming music a personal “comeback.”

“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she captioned the November 11, 2024, Instagram post. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”

On January 5, a third insider exclusively told Life & Style about Jessica’s “master plan” to get back into the entertainment business. The insider that Jessica “sees a third act for herself in showbiz,” including “more music, more acting and a reality show.”
