Over the past decade, some of the best dressed stars have taken inspiration from the evening’s theme, which changes every year. This time around, it’s Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, which is all about religious imagery like clergy robes, devils and angels, and crosses. Last year it was Comme des Garçons, a Japanese fashion label founded by Rei Kawakubo in 1973. The most successful outfits always stick to the theme, and choose to go big while others should have just stayed home.

Notable outfits from the 2018 Met Ball include Rihanna's crystal-encrusted gown with a massive papal crown that made our jaws drop, Katy Perry's larger-than-life angel wings that made her look ready to take off into the air to answer some prayers, and Cardi B's stunning maternity look: a cream gown covered in colored jewels, plus a huge headpiece that made her look like a true queen. Stunning!

These same women were responsible for some of the looks we were most wild about in the past. In 2016, Katy rocked a gothic look for the Met Gala. The coolest thing about her is that she'll trade "pretty" for "drama," and we can't stop talking about the things she wears, even if not everybody loves them! Rihanna looked like royalty in 2015 when she wore a massive brocade and fur cape. So majestic! A large train is always a conversation starter, but we've never seen it done quite like that.
