Smilers were crushed when their queen, Miley Cyrus, ended up being a no-show at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, Aug. 13. The 24-year-old pop star — who was awarded the show’s highest honor, the Ultimate Choice Award, for her decade-long involvement with Teen Choice — took to Instagram after the show ended to thank her fans, and to let them know that she was also disappointed about not being able to attend.

“I want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart for presenting me with #TheUltimateChoiceAward !” she wrote. “I am beyond bummed I couldn’t make it to the show as I had every intention of being there to accept and celebrate this honor! I created an unrealistic schedule for myself which leads me to this announcement!”

The “Malibu” singer then announced the Friday, Aug. 18, release of her next single, “Younger Now,” from her upcoming album of the same name. “I am sooooooo EXCITED to share it with all of you! I hope to always make people smile and shine light thru my work! I look forward to making music for the rest of my life and I’m thankful everyday for those who listen!” she added. “I am sending so much love and peace into the world right now because THATS what we need most! Love Love & more LOVE!”

Fans were particularly upset when presenter Victoria Justice announced, “last minute Miley Cyrus couldn’t make it here tonight,” which drew a resounding “boo” from the crowd. Earlier in the night, Fox tweeted that Miley was “in the house” not long before the show kicked off.

Miley’s absence at the Teen Choice Awards comes just days after it was revealed why her longtime love Liam Hemsworth wears a wedding band even though he and the Disney Channel alum are not married.

“He wears that ring as more of a ‘promise’ to Miley, but they are not officially married,” an insider told E! News. “The only thing that is missing is the legal piece of paper. The pair is not focused on planning a wedding at this time. They are more focused on making their love as strong as possible.”
