It’s that time of year again! There’s no better opportunity to show your mom just how much you care than Mother’s Day, which takes place on Sunday, May 12 in 2019. If you feel like you’re running out of ideas for ways to celebrate the important women in your life, have no fear! We’ve put together a list of nine activities that are thoughtful, unique, and totally wallet-friendly. Scroll through the gallery below to see some awesome Mother’s Day options!
If your mom likes to get a little active and you don’t have a lot of money to drop on a day out, a picnic and hike is the perfect way to spend the day! Grab a blanket and a backpack and stop by the grocery store on the way to your destination to grab some sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks (don’t forget the water!) Hike to your heart’s content (though please keep in mind your mom’s physical capabilities or it’ll be a rough day for both of you), lay out the blanket, and enjoy your meal with a view. What a perfect time to tell your mom how much she means to you!

Window Shopping
If your mom likes to shop, bring her to the cutest shopping center or mall nearby and enjoy the day pointing out your favorite things together while sipping iced coffees or boba milk teas. Bonus if you sneak off to buy something she said she really liked before the end of the day to give to her when you get home!

Get a Massage
Couples’ massages aren’t just for romantic couples! Book a dual session for you and your mom (you can always use a discount site to get a great deal!) and surprise her with a relaxing afternoon together. Once you’re done, keep the vibe calm for the rest of the day by getting some tea, watching a funny movie, or going for a walk somewhere pretty together.

Host a Tea Party
Have a lot of women in your life to celebrate on Mother’s Day? Pamper them all without breaking the bank by hosting a tea party at your house or apartment. Stop by the grocery store for finger foods and a few varieties of tea, and if you don’t have teapots or teacups, visit a thrift store to get a set on the cheap. Just think how surprised and impressed your loved ones will be! At the end of the event, they can even keep their teacup as a souvenir, or if you want to get crafty, you can have everyone plant a succulent in their cup.

Do a DIY Wine and Paint Night at Home
If you’re looking for a different activity to do at-home to avoid the crowds on Mother’s Day, host your own wine and paint night! Don’t know how to paint? No problem! Pick a Bob Ross video on YouTube and put your laptop or tablet at the end of a table. Grab some cheap acrylic paints, paintbrushes, and canvases at the craft store, and a few bottles of your favorite wines, and you and your loved ones will be cracking up trying to recreate the artist’s paintings. Plus, everyone will have a fun keepsake at the end (even if they don’t come out picture-perfect)!

Check Out a Comedy Show
If your mom loves to laugh, get tickets to a local stand-up, sketch, or improv comedy show. Grab a little dinner before or a yummy dessert after to complete the evening.

Organize a Family Portrait
Listen: all moms want nice photos of their family together, but not all moms are willing to go through the stress of organizing it and the heartbreak of one of the family members ruining it. So why don’t you do her a favor, hire a photographer, help your dad/siblings/etc. pick our some nice outfits, and do your mom’s hair and makeup before surprising her with the thoughtful gesture that can hang on your wall for years to come.

Enjoy Some Yoga on the Beach
If your mom is something of a yoga enthusiast (or even just enjoys an occasional workout sesh), why not do a little yoga on the beach together? Drive to the closest seashore, lay out some mats on the boardwalk (or go directly on the sand) and follow a YouTube yoga class while the sound of the nearby waves helps ease tension.

Try Wine Tasting
If your mom loves wine (and let’s be honest, all moms do) you should enjoy a little wine tasting on Mother’s Day! You can take her to a local vineyard (if there is one) or tasting room, or if you want, organize your own wine tasting party. Have each attendee bring their favorite bottle, and have everyone else rate which ones they like best! Before the tastings, get some wine glasses at the dollar store and glass markers at the craft store and have everyone decorate their wine glass as an adorable memento of the fun evening. And don’t forget the cheese and crackers!
