Wisconsin Pharmacy Student Allegedly Killed By Friend Who Grew Paranoid After Smoking Marijuana
Police believe that Wisconsin-based pharmacy student Ariel Spillner was fatally shot by her friend Jamica Simone Mills, who allegedly grew paranoid when they were smoking marijuana together.
The criminal complaint stated that Mills was charged with first-degree reckless homicide and a felony charge for the use of a dangerous weapon, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, WMTV and Fox 6 Milwaukee.
After the fatal shooting took place on November 4, a GoFundMe page was set up to help Spillner’s family pay for funeral costs after they experienced the “unimaginable loss.”
“Ariel was a light to everyone who knew her – she had the most giving soul with the biggest heart,” the Spillner family wrote in the post. “She loved deeply: her family, her friends, her dogs, and the simple joys of life. Ariel was an outstanding athlete, a loyal friend, and someone who always looked for ways to help others. Her compassion and energy touched everyone she met. She had such a bright future, and it is heartbreaking that it was ripped away from her and us.”
Additionally, it was explained that the “funds will be used to help cover funeral expenses and to support the Spillner Family as they navigate life without their beautiful Ariel. In honor of her giving spirit, a portion of the donations will also go towards causes and organizations that were most important to Ariel.”
First responders found Mills with a gunshot wound to her abdomen around 9:40 p.m. on November 4, according to WMTV and the Journal Sentinel. Meanwhile, Spillner was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 26 years old at the time of the shooting.
The outlets reported that Mills allegedly told police she and Spillner had been friends for a year prior to the fatal shooting. Spillner was allegedly visiting Mills’ house to cut her dogs’ hair at the time of the incident.
Mills said they both smoked marijuana and quickly grew paranoid while under the influence.

According to Mills, she saw Spillner make a sudden movement with her hand that led her to believe her friend was going to stab her. Mills told police that Spillner’s alleged action made her feel compelled to get a handgun she had in her bedroom, according to Fox 6 Milwaukee.
Mills told police she did not intend to kill Spillner, according to the outlets.
She is currently in custody and her bond has been set at $150,000, according to People. She is scheduled to appear in court on November 17.
