Sophia Grace Hangs up Her Tutu for an Edgier Style — Plus Check out Her New Single
She’s all grown up! Fans may remember meeting a tutu-clad Sophia Grace Brownlee and her cousin, Rosie, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show — and today, the singing and dancing mogul is 14 years old and we can’t get over how much she’s changed over the years. Sophia recently released her newest single, “Why U Mad,” on Oct. 13, 2017, and the video already brought in over 1.5 million views. “You can see I’ve changed a lot, I’m older, my outfit it cooler and I’m not in a dress anymore,” the Essex native joked during an interview with The Daily Mail.
She continued, “People will see me changing, there was no pressure to grow up — I was the one who didn’t want to wear tutus anymore. I was sick of it, it was embarrassing and none of my friends were wearing them.” Sophia first rose to fame at eight years old when a video of her singing and dancing to Nicki Minaj’s hit “Super Bass” went viral. This was how Soph and Rosie caught the attention of comedienne Ellen — and they wound up becoming regulars on her hilarious talk series.

“Why U Mad” has a strong message about bullying, which Sophia revealed is not something she lets bother her. “The lyrics to ‘Why U Mad’ are all about brushing off the comments and just knowing that people are just jealous and want to be you,” she shared. “And of course, it’s not just online but in real life too — especially schools. A few of my friends have had trouble in school before, so this song is to encourage people to ignore it and just be you.”
