Taylor Swift just got shown up by a seven-year-old girl!
Xia Vigor impersonated the pop princess on a recent episode of the Filipino show, Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids, which challenges contestants to perform as different celebrity artists each week.
But it was Xia’s rendition of Taylor’s 2008 hit “You Belong With Me” that brought down the house. The little girl confidently strutted around the stage in a full face of makeup, and even pulled off a surprise costume change. She also had her own set of backup dancers to really sell the performance.
Needless to say, the judges loved her. “Oh my goodness, tonight, you bowled me over. That was such a great performance,” singer Sharon Cuneta gushed. “I like your energy tonight compared to last week. You’re beautiful… There’s something about you, darling, that’s so special.”
“Tonight, there’s one word that I found. The word is charming,” musician Gary Valenciano said. “The meaning of charming is Xia. Excellent, excellent performance.” Added judge Ogie Alcasid, “Xia, I really wanna see ya. You were a showstopper. Congratulations.”
The week before, Xia performed the Selena Gomez song “Love You Like a Love Song.” Other contestants have channeled Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, and Harry Styles from One Direction.
Taylor has yet to respond to the viral video, but plenty of people commented below the clip on YouTube. "So pretty and talented," one user wrote, while another said, "I keep playing it over and over again and I can't keep myself from laughing at her cuteness!"
But others called out the show for sexualizing the young girl. “How is this less exploitative than a child pageant? Let kids be kids and not hypersexual circus seals," one person wrote, while another added, “Put these parents in jail. Disgusting and no one thinks you have class, parents.”
