The ‘American Pie’ Scene Everyone Remembers — and Why Jason Biggs Showed It to His 11-Year-Old Son

Jason Biggs’ iconic role as Jim Levenstein in the 1999 film American Pie — and its subsequent sequels — made him the talk of office water coolers and cafeteria lunch tables everywhere.

The infamous “pie scene,” in which Jim is caught having a NSFW encounter with a freshly baked pie, pushed the envelope of teen comedies at the time.

While the outrageous moment and Biggs’ portrayal of the awkward-but-lovable Jim helped skyrocket his career, the film’s lasting cultural impact has come with an unexpected downside: he now has to explain the scene to his kids.

On a recent episode of SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show, the actor revealed that he and his wife, Jenny Mollen, recently decided it was time to address the notorious pie scene with their oldest son, Sid.

“[The kids] kept hearing about American Pie and pie and [asking], ‘Daddy, what do you do with the pie?’ and I had to have a conversation with my oldest,” Biggs explained on the show. “I actually showed him the scene. Jenny and I talked about this, and we were like, ‘We want to get ahead of this.’”

Biggs shared that he and his wife chose to approach the topic in much the same way they would a more traditional version of “the sex talk.”

“It’s my version of a sex talk, right?” he explained. “It’s like, how much do you want them to hear from friends and other people at school, and how much do you want to control the narrative, and it was literally happening with American Pie.”

The infamous scene has followed Biggs for years — even while he’s out in public with his young family.

“[Once] we were all walking in New York on the street and the boys were up ahead and thank god they did not hear it, but a guy walked past us all and literally screamed out back to me, ‘Hey, it’s the pie f—er,’ and I looked immediately at the boys,” Biggs shared. “They did not hear him, thank God.”

When it came time to discuss the scene with Sid, Biggs said he started by asking questions to gauge what his son already understood.

“I wanted to ask him first,” Biggs explained. “I said, ‘What do you think happens?’ I was just curious, and he actually guessed correctly.”

Biggs continued, “He was embarrassed to say it, very embarrassed, but I was like, ‘Okay. Let me show you. Let me show you what happened,’ and so I showed him the scene, and he laughed and laughed.”

While his son clearly saw the humor in the moment, Biggs admitted the experience wasn’t without some discomfort.

“He was a little uncomfortable for sure,” Biggs admitted.

However, after watching the scene, Sid also seemed impressed with his dad’s acting chops.

“He did say I was a good actor. And you know what? At the end of the day, that’s all that matters,” Biggs joked.
