Hey, baby girl. Did you know you’re named after a pretty gypsy from a classic novel?
In her first interview since giving birth to daughter Esmeralda Amada in September, Eva Mendes reveals the reason why she and Ryan Gosling chose the name (yep — you, us and the rest of the world right) and opens up about all things motherhood.

“Ryan and I both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and just think it’s a beautiful name,” she tells Violet Grey’s digital publication, ‘The Violet Files’. “Amada was my grandmother’s name. It means ‘beloved’ in Spanish.”

Motherhood has completely changed the 40-year-old actress’ life.
“I thought my wild nights were over, but these are some of the wildest nights I’ve ever had,” says the beauty, who poses in a blunt bob wig with fringe in several stunning portraits for the online mag.
But if you think being a mother is hard work, being a baby is even more difficult.
“Everything is a struggle for her. For instance, I haven’t thrown up since the ‘90s and she’s thrown up twice since we started this interview,” Eva shares. “Motherhood is cake compared to what it’s like to be a baby.”

Since she and Ryan, 34, became parents on Sept. 12, the pair have maintained a relatively low profile — and there’s a reason for that.
“Whether we like it or not, privacy is going to be very difficult for Esmeralda,” she explains. “I think it’s unfair but that’s our reality. So Ryan and I decided early on to give her as much privacy as we could. And my pregnancy was the first opportunity to give her that.”
