And the Winner Is… These Glittery AF Red Carpet Doughnuts!
The Oscars are right around the corner, which means it's time to start prepping your ultimate viewing party! Luckily, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken has got you covered on the dessert front. The well-known eatery is serving up Insta-worthy — (and drool-worthy!) — doughnuts now through March 4, and they're arguably more glittery than any dress we can expect to see on the big day.
The Red Carpet Doughnut is gold and sparkly on the outside, with a delectable red velvet cake on the inside. The treats are available for $5.00 each in LA by advanced order, or you can hit up their LA location on Oscar weekend. No matter what, though, you better hurry! They won't be around for long.
If for some reason you're not into red velvet cake — seriously, what's wrong with you? — they've come up with plenty of other flavors you're sure to like including Raspberry Rose for Valentine's Day and King Cake for Mardi Gras. Yep, we're officially starving.
According to Astro Doughnut's "About Us" page, childhood friends Elliot Spaisman and Jeff Halpern started the joint thanks to their love of hockey and fondness for American comfort food. The duo grew up playing the sport together in Montgomery County, MD and would often meet for a post-game doughnut. After playing for the Washington Capitals, they opened up a local eatery.
Today, the restaurant has three locations — Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and Falls Church, VA. We're still hoping they'll open one in New York, though. "It's a living, breathing animal," Jeff said. "We're both very proud of it." Get 'em while they're hot!
The 90th Academy Awards air Sunday, Mar. 4 at 7 p.m. EST on ABC.
