Keep your kids from tearing apart your fridge by designating the bottom shelf on the door for healthy self-serve snacks. Divvy up a wide shelf with smaller bins such as InterDesign Linus Small Pantry Binz (from $11, containerstore.com) and sort like items together, such as baby carrots in one bin, hummus single-packs in another and string cheese in a third.

One Thing Not To Keep In The Fridge Door
Milk! Temperatures fluctuate most on the door and milk is prone to spoilage. Instead, stow it on the top or middle shelf toward the back of the fridge, which is coldest. Do the same with eggs.

Give Your Bottles a Boost
The BottleLoft ($30, amazon.com) attaches to the top of your fridge with super strong adhesive. Each strip — there are two in a package — will hold up to three metal-topped bottles, taking full advantage of your fridge’s often-empty vertical space.

Give Each Drawer A Job, Then Put Everything In Its Place
1. If you have a crisper drawer, stow your fruits there. 2. Vegetables will do best in a drawer with adjustable humidity. 3. Raw meat should go on the bottom shelf to prevent contamination. (If you put it up high and juices leak from the packaging, anything that gets dripped on should be tossed.) 4. Deli meats and bacon go in the shallow meat drawer. Note: Don’t stick raw meat in a drawer with your fruits and vegetables!
