One of the Backstreet Boys Reacts to Mashup of His Song and Taylor Swift’s ‘Elizabeth Taylor’

Alexander James (AJ) McLean, best known for being one of the founding members of popular 90s boy band the Backstreet Boys, is weighing in on Taylor Swift‘s latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Following the release of Swift’s new album on October 3, many listeners pointed out the fact that various songs on the album bore striking similarities to other songs throughout pop music history.

This prompted a string of mashups between the new songs and older pop songs to be created and spread in popularity online.

In a new Instagram video, McLean posted himself enjoying and jamming out to one such mashup.

The song, mixed by Lydia Getachew, combined “Elizabeth Taylor” by Taylor Swift and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” by the Backstreet Boys in a mashup she titled “Everybody, Elizabeth Taylor (BSB x Taylor Swift)” on SoundCloud.

“Come on now you know one of us had to! @taylorswift !” McLean wrote on the post, which showed him bopping his head along to the mashup while smiling.

McLean is also confirmed to be releasing a new solo album of his own very soon. As a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show on October 20, McLean discussed the ins and outs of his upcoming project.

His new EP called Hi My Name Is Alex will be released on November 27 and will later be followed by a full length album called Hi My Name is Alexander James on January 9.

McLean explained to Hudson that he is excited to give his audience the chance to get to know him on a more personal level through his solo music.

“AJ is a character in a band,” McLean shared on the show. “It doesn’t define me as who I am. I want the world to get to know Alex.… I want everyone to kind of get to know me as me. There’s not that much of a difference between the two, but one is part of a group, part of a team, and then me on my own, I finally realized that I can love myself today, which I do. I can look at myself in the mirror.”
