If you're a Gossip Girl fan, then you definitely spotted Leighton Meester's striking hair transformation from Blair Waldorf-y brunette to Serena van der Woodsen-y blonde. The 31-year-old star might be an accomplished actress, wife, mom, blah blah blah… but she'll always be the sharp-witted Queen Bee of the Upper East Side to us. So, when we came across her truly shocking beauty choice, we could only think about it within the realm of The CW universe.

Wtf would Serena say about Blair copying her look?! Since we'll never know for sure how Serena would respond to such a betrayal (probably with feined adoration, tbh), the next best thing is knowing Blake Lively's thoughts on the change. Except, are Blake Lively and Leighton Meester even friends anymore?

It hurts our soul that we have to ask this question — but let's look at the facts, shall we? Fact: Leighton and Blake don't follow each other on Instagram. Fact: Leighton and Blake haven't been (publically) photographed together since the show. Fact: The two stars never talk about each other and this realization is breaking our damn hearts.

Of course, when Gossip Girl was in its prime, everyone tried to pit Leighton and Blake against each other. Because obvsiouly two female stars on the same show couldn't possibly work together without getting in constant catfights. The horror. The actresses frequently shot down those rumors and chalked them up to sexism (they were), but that doesn't mean the women's relationship ever transitioned from co-stars to BFFs.

"It's funny," Michelle Trachtenberg (who played wannabe crazy b–ch Georgina Sparks) explained in Vanity Fair, "because when we were filming, there was, 'Leighton hates Blake, Blake hates Leighton, everyone hates Blake, everyone hates Leighton, everyone hates Chace [Crawford],' and blah, blah, blah. It really wasn't. We were all chill. It was cool."

As "cool" as it might've been, they weren't close. Writer/Co-producer Joshua Safran explained they they were friendly, but extremely different. "Blake is very much in the moment. Blake knows what’s happening. She knows this movie's coming out, this band is happening. You talk to Blake on a very contemporary level, and she would be like, 'I'm doing this thing tonight. Have you been to this restaurant?'" he said. "Leighton was very removed and very quiet, and, after her scenes were done, she would wander the stage. I had this image of her just in these gorgeous dresses with a book in her hand, sort of a little bit out of focus out in the corners… Blake and Leighton were not friends. They were friendly, but they were not friends like Serena and Blair. Yet the second they'd be on set together, it's as if they were."

So, there you have it. We fell for the beautiful, complicated, entertaining friendship between Serena and Blair. As much as fans want them to be besties — they're not. Sigh. We hope there's a Ladurée macaron that can cure this heartache.
