Ariana Grande Goes Back to Brunette: See Her Stunning New Hair Transformation
Ariana Grande is swapping her blonde locks for brunette—and fans are loving the comeback to her natural roots.
The Wicked star debuted her fresh look ahead of joining Cynthia Erivo for the musical’s sequel press tour, trading her bleach-blonde style for the first time since 2022. Sharing a mirror selfie of herself with darker tresses, Ariana playfully wrote on Instagram on October 29, “It’s good to see me, isn’t it?”
Ariana wasn’t the only one excited about the transformation. Her hair colorist Francesco De Chiara reposted her snap to his Instagram Story, adding, “Here she is.” On Ariana’s own post, Francesco commented, “We’re back amore.” He also teased a fresh chapter for the singer, sharing a fan reaction to her new brunette curls that read, “A new chapter has begun!”
For Ariana, returning to brunette may be a way to bid farewell to Glinda. She previously said she “needed” to go blonde to play the good witch in Wicked and Wicked: For Good. “Even though I was wearing wigs, I needed to be blonde, too,” Ariana, 32, explained to Vogue in 2024, noting that she even lightened her eyebrows for “a softness that Glinda has with the lighter brows.” She added, “It didn’t make any sense when I had my dark brows.”
The transformation went beyond hair color. Ariana faced criticism for changing her vocal register to fully embody Glinda. “Maybe people underestimate how long we spent finding and disappearing into these women,” she told Variety last year. “When certain inflections or mannerisms take time to melt away, sometimes people poke fun. But we had a job to do, and we had things to get lost in—because that’s what the piece required.”
Ariana’s return to brunette may also mark a return to her pop-girl persona. She will be hitting the road on tour for her Eternal Sunshine album this summer, but she acknowledges that Glinda has left a lasting imprint on her. “Certain things maybe won’t melt away,” she told Variety. “Some will, but I’m really grateful for the pieces that will stay with us forever.”
