Autopsy Released for Baby Who Was Found Dead in College Cheerleader’s Closet

The autopsy has been released for the newborn who was allegedly found dead in University of Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling’s closet, with the findings being inconclusive.

Snelling, 21, was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant on August 31, according to the Lexington Police Department.

On Wednesday, September 3, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn revealed that the results of the newborn’s preliminary autopsy yielded inconclusive findings for the cause of death.

The death investigation remains ongoing “pending the results of these studies,” he said, per People.

Officers were dispatched for an unresponsive infant at a Kentucky home at approximately 10:30 a.m. on August 27. The infant was pronounced dead upon the officers’ arrival. Snelling, 21, is believed to be the child’s birth mother.

The arrest citation for Snelling stated the “infant was located wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” according to People. The college student later “admitted to giving birth” and “concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel.”

She entered a not guilty plea during a hearing in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, on Tuesday, September 2. Snelling – who attended the hearing alongside her attorney Brandon Marshall – also posted a $100,000 bond in court. She is now on house arrest in her parents home in Jefferson City, Tennessee.

Snelling’s next court appearance is scheduled to take place on September 26.

Following her arrest, the University of Kentucky confirmed that Snelling was a student and college athlete at the institution. “We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons,” the university said in a statement. “All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police.”

Not much is known about Snelling’s pregnancy, and the baby’s biological father has not been identified. Snelling teased a romance in a TikTok video shared on June 18.

The video showed her and an unidentified man posing for several photos in a field as they matched in white outfits. The duo appeared to be a couple, as they held hands, cuddled and even shared a kiss in the various photos.

The same young man also appeared in a video that Snelling posted from before a Megan Moroney concert in April. He was seen planting a kiss on her cheek, while she affectionately placed her hand on his face.

Snelling was also seen lip-synching along to Moroney’s song “Wonder” as she mouthed along to the lyrics, “He don’t make me wonder.”
