A Lot of People Had a Lot to Say About Chef Bobby Flay’s Renovated NYC Apartment
Nearly 10 years after moving in, chef Bobby Flay set out to finally make his Tribeca warehouse apartment feel like home. Naturally, the massive, high-end kitchen was the main priority for the celebrity chef when he first moved in.
“As somebody who cooks in kitchens, we always feel like we’re cooking in a submarine; it’s nice to come home to some breadth,” Flay shared in a recent Architectural Digest video where he showcased his large, open-air kitchen.
Over the years, he let the rest of his 3,800-square-foot home become outdated, and he felt it was time for some big changes.
Now, in his recent Architectural Digest feature, Flay is showing off the unique touches he and his designer friend Olivia Jane Capuano have incorporated into his home, from the Parisian-inspired entryway to the rich leather sectional in the living room.

But as AD shared stunning snapshots of the redesigned space on Instagram, not everyone was loving the updates, particularly the over-the-top marble walls in the bathrooms.
Some Instagram commenters likened the bathroom designs to bleu cheese or even a crime scene, while others remarked that the intense green-and-white swirls would give them headaches and nausea–certainly not what Flay wants for any guests experiencing his gourmet cooking! One commenter even specified, “Great apartment. Except the bathroom…”
However, Flay and Capuano seemed unfazed by the negative comments. Capuano took to Instagram to share her excitement over having her work featured in Architectural Digest, saying, “It’s a dream to have a project featured on AD” and that “great things happen when you get to collaborate with great friends,” referring to her longtime friendship with Flay.
Unapologetic about her design choices, Capuano even made an entire additional Instagram post with more photos dedicated to the several “maximalist stone bathrooms” in Flay’s home, saying they give the space “distinct and expressive character.”
On the same post, Flay left a comment calling Capuano the “best designer ever,” clearly loving the various unique marble designs.
