Everything to Know About the Brian Walshe Case: The Man Accused of Killing His Wife

Brian Walshe, the 50-year-old man charged with murdering and dismembering his wife, Ana Walshe, in 2023 continues to face intense scrutiny in court.

The 39-year-old was last seen on New Year’s Eve 2022, prompting a missing person investigation that spanned across Cohasset, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C.

Within days, Walshe was arrested and charged with providing false information to investigators. Her remains have never been recovered.

Two weeks ago, as jury selection began, Walshe surprised the court by pleading guilty to charges of misleading police and relocating his wife’s body. While this plea acknowledges that Ana Walshe is deceased, Walshe and his attorneys maintain that he did not kill her.

They claim he found his wife dead in their bed on New Year’s Day and panicked, fearing no one would believe he was not involved. Prosecutors, however, argue that Walshe killed his wife after suspecting she was having an affair, then dismembered and disposed of her body.

The trial has focused heavily on evidence collected during the investigation. On Tuesday morning, December 8, jurors heard testimony about DNA samples from both Brian and Ana Walshe, CNN reports. The samples were analyzed and are in the FBI’s possession.

The day before, the prosecution called witnesses from several businesses to introduce surveillance footage. Most of the videos, from early January, clearly showed Walshe’s face.

Cade Reed, a Lowe’s representative, showed footage from the Danvers store’s self-checkout, along with receipts for items like a hacksaw, hatchet, mop, buckets, cleaning supplies, and a $463 cash purchase. Other videos from CVS and Walgreens showed additional purchases.

Jurors also learned that Ana’s employer had issued a $500,000 life insurance policy.

Forensic scientist Matthew Sheehan testified that a kitchen knife found in a cabinet above Walshe’s refrigerator tested positive for blood. Blood stains were also found in several areas of the home, including the stairs and basement floor, according to ABC News.

As the trial continues, prosecutors are using surveillance footage, DNA evidence, and financial records to piece together the events surrounding Ana Walshe’s death.
