Alex Murdaugh’s Housekeeper Reveals When She Became Convinced He Committed Murders
Former Murdaugh family housekeeper Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson revealed the clues that convinced her that Alex Murdaugh killed his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and their son Paul Murdaugh in June 2021.
In her new tell-all memoir, Within the House of Murdaugh: Amid a Unique Friendship – Blanca and Maggie, Turrubiate-Simpson said she trusted Alex, 57, and the other Murdaugh family members after working for them for many years.
“There was no universe in which Alex could have committed these crimes,” she wrote about her mindset shortly after the murders.
However, Turrubiate-Simpson tapped into her training as a U.S. Navy veteran and former corrections officer to eventually notice that Alex may not have been as innocent as she once thought.

One day after the murders, Turrubiate-Simpson recalled noticing unusual things at the family’s hunting lodge. Maggie’s Mercedes SUV was parked in the wrong spot, while her pajamas were laid out on the floor of the laundry room. “I knew automatically that wasn’t her,” Turrubiate-Simpson told People, noting that both instances were out of character for Maggie and that she was planning on spending the night at the family’s main house.
After noting that she thought someone else moved Maggie’s SUV, she wondered if the pajamas were staged to make it appear as if Maggie was planning to sleep at the hunting lodge on the night of her death. Despite her concerns, Turrubiate-Simpson said she didn’t know who would try to set the scene.
Turrubiate-Simpson eventually started piecing her suspicions together in August 2021 when Alex told her he was wearing a different shirt on the night of the murders. “You remember what I was wearing that day,” she recalled him telling her in the book. “You know, the Vinny Vines (Vineyard Vines) shirt.”
She explained the moment made her skeptical that Alex might have been involved in the deaths, noting that she remembered he wore another shirt on the day of the murders because she straightened its collar before he left for work.
“One thing was for sure,” she wrote. “He was lying.”
Alex was arrested in July 2022 for the murders, though Turrubiate-Simpson admitted she still hoped he was innocent. However, she had another realization about his involvement when she saw police body cam footage from the first responding officer at the scene of the crime during the murder trial in January 2023.
Alex was seen standing next to his Suburban, while a beach towel was visible on the front seat. “I looked at the towel and I said, ‘Oh my God. He did it,’” she told the outlet.
Earlier on the day of the murders, Turrubiate-Simpson washed, dried and folded the same towel and placed it on a shelf in the laundry room. She knew Alex was involved in the murders because he claimed to have been at his father’s house at the time of the deaths, though he only would have had access to the towel at the main house where the murders took place.

In the book, she speculated that Alex “went to the laundry room, grabbed the towel to finish drying himself and possibly took the freshly washed T-shirt hanging there.”
Following his arrest and high profile trial, Alex was found guilty of the murders and was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison.
Additionally, he was found guilty of 22 federal financial crimes, which included conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, money laundering and more, according to the United States Attorney’s Office District of South Carolina.
