Caitlyn Jenner may have surprised fans when she made her big reveal on the cover of Vanity Fair, but ex-wife Linda Thompson confesses the transgender Olympian has been thinking about a sex change for over 30 years!
In clips from her upcoming memoir shared by People magazine, the mother of Brandon and Brody Jenner, writes that she first found out about "Caitlyn" in 1985, when Bruce Jenner (at the time) told her she "felt like a woman trapped in a man's body."
Linda responded, "'Whoa, Bruce, honey, have you looked in a mirror? You are the epitome of the ideal man!'"
However, despite going to counseling together, Caitlyn still considered traveling across the world to have a sex change operation.
"As we tried to work through our feelings," Linda writes, "Bruce told me he was considering traveling out of the country, possibly to Denmark, to try to have the gender reassignment surgery anonymously and then come back as a female."
So when did Linda break the news to their two sons?
"I felt such an obligation to keep Bruce's gender dysphoria his secret that I did not even tell my sons until they were 31 and 29 years old, respectively," Linda adds. "I wanted them to experience enough life and garner enough knowledge, confidence and compassion to be able to deal with their father's true self."
We are so happy Caitlyn is finally living her truth! For a look at her most stylish moments, check out the gallery below!
