Author Callie Hart Releases ‘Brimstone,’ the Follow-Up to BookTok-Favorite ‘Quicksilver’

If you’re a fan of romantasy books, you’re likely no stranger to the work of best-selling author Callie Hart.

Hart has been successfully publishing romance books for over 10 years, but BookTok, the reading community on TikTok, has recently bolstered her success more than ever before.

On November 18, Hart finally released Brimstone, her highly-anticipated follow up to Quicksilver, which took BookTok by storm in 2024.

In the first book, the enemies-to-lovers romance follows Saeris Fane as she encounters and eventually falls for Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, in a Fae realm she never knew existed.

Hart sat down with Life&Style to discuss all things Brimstone, what’s next for the Fae & Alchemy series, and more.

“There was a lot of information that still had to be revealed in book two,” Hart explained. “So I was very excited to, you know, open that up from Kingfisher’s point of view, especially because he obviously travels to Zilvaren. So we get to learn a lot more about the worldbuilding, you know, the scene setting of Zilvaren and through his eyes, which was really fun for me to write, and a different kind of take on telling that side of the story as well.”

Beyond the worldbuilding aspect, Hart was also, of course, excited to further explore Kingfisher and Saeris’ romantic relationship.

“Obviously there’s a huge deepening of their connection and their relationship as well; it’s a massive piece of book two,” she said. “So getting to interweave new magic, new settings, with this kind of like blossoming, this flourishing of their relationship, was just really, really exciting, and I’m so glad that I got to share that with readers.”

Now that the characters are well-established, diving even deeper into the main characters’ relationship was an opportunity Hart had been waiting for.

“Being able to explore [their relationship] and expand on it and really kind of peel back the layers and show the reader, like, you know, the love that they feel for each other and Kingfisher’s vulnerability that I didn’t get to share in book one, you know, those, those parts were really, really fun,” Hart said.

The book is also packed with exciting reveals, many of which have to do with the laws surrounding the different types of magic that exist in the book’s realms.

Spoiler warning for those who haven’t read Brimstone yet, but the power of the Fae’s “true names” is tied to an important reveal.

“People were speculating about [the names] in book one, [and] where the Kingfisher’s true name would be revealed,” she said. “And we did get that reveal in book two, which was really exciting.”

In addition to being available in print and ebook editions, Brimstone is also available in audiobook format through Spotify audiobooks for an even more immersive reader experience.

The audiobook format for Quicksilver was so popular that it landed in the 9th spot of Spotify’s Global Top Audiobooks in Premium of 2025 and was number one in their Top Romance Audiobooks in Premium in the U.S.

“There are some kind of harrowing moments in this book as well, some really, kind of emotionally like, you know, tough scenes to get through,” Hart explained. “So it took me a while to actually go back and listen to those, because I was, you know, very cautious about hearing it. It really comes to life when you listen to the audiobook. You know, it’s one thing reading it, but listening to it really gives a visceral reaction.”

Looking ahead, Hart has big plans for book three of the series already in the works, with it set to be published in 2026.

“I’ve had this whole series mapped out before I wrote one single word on Quicksilver, so I’ve known exactly where it’s going, what’s happening, who these characters are, what their end goals are,” she explained. “I’m about halfway through writing book three right now, and it’s all going to plan–this is where I have my sort of villain laugh.”

Hart continued, “It’s so rewarding and fulfilling being able to, like, finally, see these pieces fall into place. Because I was thinking about some of these scenes before I even truly had book one figured out. So, yeah, it’s really quite cathartic to see everything kind of, like, neatly falling into place.”
