It's always shocking when a celebrity admits that they're a recovered drug addict – especially because they managed to hide it so well in the public eye.

Demi Lovato
The 24-year-old used to do quite a bit of cocaine.
"I couldn’t go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes. I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there," she told Access Hollywood.
“I was going to the airport and I had a Sprite bottle just filled with vodka and it was just nine in the morning and I was throwing up in the car and this was just to get on a plane to go back to LA to the sober living house that I was staying at…I had all the help in the world, but I didn’t want it,” she added.

The 41-year-old was admittedly addicted to heroin and a bunch of other drugs.
“I’ve done just about every drug possible. Coke, heroin, ecstasy, LSD, everything. The worst effect, for me, was pot. I felt silly and giggly, and I hate feeling like that," she has said. "I remember taking LSD before I went to Disneyland. I started thinking about Mickey Mouse being a short, middle-aged man in a costume who hates his life. Those drugs can be dangerous if you don’t go into it positively. I gave them up long ago.”

The 30-year-old admitted to smoking meth up to 13 times a day.
“I was 14 or 15 [when I first smoked meth],” she wrote in her book Made in Reality. “I was on the extreme level and addiction developed instantly. [I smoked] probably four times before school, then at snack… probably 12 or 13 times a day."
"I didn't care about anything. I could live or die, I didn't care. I had nothing to get out of bed for, nothing was exciting.”

The 68-year-old used to smoke a lot of crack.
"Part of [the addiction] is hereditary: my father died of alcoholism,” he has said. “I took it a step further, I drank and I used drugs. I liked the feeling of not being cognizant of what was going on around me.
“I didn’t rob people, I was working the whole time. I rehearsed and performed on drugs. I went on stage and watched people’s eyes roll across stage and I’d go ‘oh I have a line, OK got to focus on the play now.' I was not affectionate, I was not associative, and I was kind of crazy – in a way that I regret and I’ve apologized to both.”

The 52-year-old used to do cocaine all the time.
"I was a functioning addict. I’d work from 3 in the afternoon until 7 at night, get off and party until 7 in the morning — then sleep until 2, go to the radio station and do it all over again,” she told In Touch magazine.
“People around me knew, but nobody ever said anything to me. Nobody had the guts, which is shocking to me. I guess it was like watching a circus freak show.”

The 41-year-old was addicted to meth.
“I got into a scene. I started going out and taking ecstasy,” she has said. “From ecstasy it went to crystal meth. With any drugs, everything is great at the beginning, and then slowly your life starts to spiral down. [I was] 90 pounds at one point.”

Robert Downey Jr.
The 51-year-old has admitted that he became a bad heroin addict.
"All those years of snorting coke, and then I accidentally get involved in heroin after smoking crack for the first time. It finally tied my shoelaces together. Smoking dope and smoking coke, you are rendered defenseless," he told Rolling Stone. "The only way out of that hopeless state is intervention."

The 35-year-old is a recovered meth addict.
"Often I would do meth quickly in public bathrooms, blowing the smoke into wet paper towels so you couldn’t see it," she wrote in her memoir Unsweetened.
