Chappell Roan Handles Wardrobe Malfunction Like a Pro During Concert
Chappell Roan may be known for her daring fashion, but during a recent performance, the rising pop star nearly had a panic attack when she realized just how revealing her outfit really was.
On September 20, the Grammy winner, 27, kicked off her string of shows at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, wowing fans with a high-energy set. But in the middle of the concert, she had a candid moment onstage when she suddenly remembered what she was wearing.
“Oh my God, I forgot my bottom was just a thong,” she exclaimed in a TikTok video caught by fans. With one hand on her backside and her jaw dropping in shock, she admitted, “I look up at the screen and see my ass. I was like, it’s gone.”
The look — a red-and-black corset halter top paired with coordinating undergarments — left her cheeks fully on display. After being reminded by crew members that the risqué outfit was intentional, Roan laughed it off and continued performing like a pro.

The night wasn’t just about fashion faux pas, though. Roan delivered fan-favorite hits like “Casual,” “The Subway,” and “Hot to Go,” and even grew emotional while speaking directly to the audience.
“It’s been quite a year,” she shared, according to Billboard. “I can’t believe we’re here, honestly. It’s crazy. Thank you for sticking with me through it, I know it was … it’s been really hard.”
She went on to express how much her career and her fans mean to her: “I’m so glad I can come to work like this. I just needed a place like this so bad when I was 13, 14. I just wanted to dress up however I wanted, and I wanted to wear makeup and look weird. So I hope you know that you’re welcome here, however you show up today. You are cherished.”
While this thong “mishap” wasn’t an actual accident, it’s far from the first time Roan has faced a wardrobe challenge. Back in March, at Paris Fashion Week, she posted a cheeky snap after the back of her red leather Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress split wide open, exposing her underwear. She also endured a similar moment during her Saturday Night Live debut last November.
Even her bold Statue of Liberty look at Governors Ball came with its own set of struggles. On the *Call Her Daddy* podcast, Roan revealed how tough it was to scrub off the green spray paint afterward: “…I took three baths, not soap, dish soap. I literally poured dish soap in and scrubbed rubbed my whole body with coconut oil, jumped in, scrubbed with a literal, like, kitchen sponge,” she said, joking that her “pubes” were “pulling out from it all.”
