Not only are both the actresses turned singers super successful at the young ages of 24-years-old, but they also had the same start to their careers. The former Disney Channel girls have a super sweet history — they met on the set of Barney & Friends long before they rose to fame on their respective Disney Channel shows. Demi recently reflected on how being a child star affected her career and even admitted that she regrets starting out so young.
The "Cool for The Summer" singer while in France for the Cannes Lions festival spoke to Susanne Daniels, the head of original programming for YouTube about the challenges of transitioning from a child star into a mainstream artist. She currently has a documentary titled Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated where she maps out her evolution for her fans. See what she revealed in the video below.
Demi sure sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders — but she'd be the first to admit that her journey hasn't been an easy one. A sentiment that we're sure Selena could also relate to considering her history. Both women grew up in the spotlight of fame and faced firsthand the pressures of the spotlight. Both Selena and Demi have spent time in rehab to fight their battles with eating disorders and mental health issues. Selena attributes a lot of her current success to her intensive therapy.
"I wish more people would talk about therapy," she told Vogue earlier this year. "We girls, we’re taught to be almost too resilient, to be strong and sexy and cool and laid-back, the girl who’s down. We also need to feel allowed to fall apart."

The two stars were definitely close growing up but had a falling out later on as Selena became close friends with Taylor Swift. Demi famously was asked by a fan how her bestie Selena was doing and she shot back, "Ask Taylor." Yikes!
But, it looks like today the two are committed to keeping their years-long friendship alive.
"We've been through a lot together, we've had periods of times we here we grew apart and we just didn't really talk," Demi explained. "Now we are in a place where I think we realized that life is so short and that when you have people in your life that love you so much then, you should just always be around them. She's going to be a big sister, and I want to be around for that. Everything about her, she has a great soul, she's talented, she's beautiful, and she will always be really, really close to my heart."
