Mounjaro Was a ‘Game Changer’! Eric Stonestreet’s Weight Loss Transformation: Before and After Photos

2009

Eric is most known for playing Cameron Tucker in Modern Family, which aired on ABC for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020. Around the same time of his casting, he received his type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

“It was like this crazy happy moment cut with this diagnosis that I truthfully didn’t take very seriously,” he told People on May 1, 2025. “I had a doctor that sent me on my way with a couple pills and said, ‘Take care.’ No inspiring moment of, ‘You need to seize the day and change this,’ which I guess technically isn’t their responsibility, but I just didn’t do anything about it.”

2012

Eric admitted that he spent years hiding his diagnosis from everyone, including his loved ones, because he was “embarrassed.”

“I didn’t want to tell anybody,” he continued. “I knew my mom and dad were both type 2 diabetics and didn’t share it with them. If I was dating a person, I never shared that with them. I didn’t tell my two best friends for a long time.”

2016

Eric began dating now-fiancée Lindsay Schweitzer, a pediatric nurse, in 2016. He admitted that he waited to tell Lindsay about his diagnosis until several years into their relationship.

“I would hide my injectables and my pills from her. I didn’t want her to open the fridge and see something in there,” he shared.

2019

The Secret Life of Pets alum said that he began taking his health more seriously after he thought about his late father’s experience with “very painful” diabetic neuropathy, a type of nerve damage, in his legs and feet.

“He passed away from leukemia, but the thing that was the most painful for him was his diabetic neuropathy. And I just decided, well, I can’t go down that road,” Eric explained.

Additionally, Eric said he wanted to make sure he would be around for Lindsay’s twin sons, whom he has helped raise.

“They’re her kids but I’ve known them since 3 so they’re my kids as well,” he said. “And just like every parent, I want to be around. So I just decided, I gotta stop this train from going that direction and reverse it a little bit as best I can.”

2022

Eric began taking Mounjaro, an FDA-approved type 2 diabetes drug that is also effective for weight loss by reducing the appetite and slowing down digestion, shortly after it hit the market in 2022.

In an interview with Business Insider, Eric said, “My doctor at the time was very excited about it coming out, told me: ‘Eric, when this drug hits the market, you’re going to be one of the first people on it. It’s going to be great for you.’ And it has been.”

Eric said that his A1C, a test that measures average blood sugar levels, dropped steadily after he began taking the drug, which was a good sign for his type 2 diabetes diagnosis. “Once I really started focusing on diet and exercise to go along with Mounjaro, my A1C just fell off a cliff. It’s remarkable,” he said.

2025

In his interview with People, Eric called Mounjaro a “game changer” because it “changed my lifestyle, changed my approach to eating, changed my approach to exercise.”

“I experienced a little weight loss. My mom, she lost a significant amount of weight in her experience with it, but I’m down quite a bit,” he explained. “I kind of was at the same weight for many years, but then in the last year when I started to really contribute more to it, I’ve dropped a substantial amount of weight.”

Eric concluded, “There’s a pep in my step. And I notice it walking through the airport with my bags. I’m just lighter on my feet. It feels good. I mean, everyone’s experienced that. You lose a couple pounds and you feel better.”
