If you’re an avid watcher of beauty videos on Instagram, you already know that what most makeup vids have in common is applying fake lashes. Seriously — an online makeup look is seldom complete without some falsies! And while I think fake lashes certainly do bring the drama, applying them every day isn’t exactly feasible. So why not focus on strengthening our natural lashes, so they stand on their own, without the help?

Making your own at-home serum is seriously so easy. Not to mention, a small amount will go a long way so the serum will not only be lengthening for your eyelashes but it will also be long-lasting. All you have to do is mix four ingredients into a bottle and use a clean mascara wand to distribute the serum to the lashes before going to bed. Keep reading for the step-by-step tutorial!

What You’ll Need

Vitamin E

Argan oil

Castor oil

Almond oil

Mascara wand

Funnel (optional)

The serum ingredients.

Step 1: Add 1 TBS castor oil to an empty bottle

The order in which you add the oils to the empty bottle is crucial. Though it doesn’t matter which oils are sandwiched in the middle, make sure to use 1T castor oil as your base. There’s no need to shake. I also highly recommend using a funnel to avoid mess and spillage while adding in the ingredients.

Step 2: Add 1/2 tsp almond oil

Next, I added the 1/2 tsp of almond oil, again using the funnel for accuracy’s sake (and to avoid having to do a whole lot of clean-up). Almond oil is abundant in important vitamins like calcium, magnesium, its own supply of vitamin E, and fatty acids, all of which are crucial to enhancing the eyelashes’ shine. It also contributes, of course, to thickness and growth.

Step 3: Add 1/2 tsp argan oil

Using the funnel, add 1/2 tsp of argan oil. Again, there’s no need to shake the mixture. Argan oil is rich in vitamin E, antioxidants, and important minerals that contribute to the growth and thickness of the eyelashes.

Step 4: Add 1/2 tsp vitamin E oil

Again, using the funnel, add 1/2 tsp of vitamin E oil to the mixture. (If you don’t have the oil on hand but you do have the liquid capsule vitamins, you could always extract the liquid out of those, though it would take awhile.) We’re adding vitamin E oil to the mix because it contains antioxidants that fight off free radicals — which are an undesired result of cigarette smoke, ultraviolet rays, X-rays, and gamma rays. Free radicals speed up the aging process, producing fine lines and wrinkles. (They also affect your hair, causing it to go gray prematurely.)

Step 5: Apply with mascara wand before bed

Once everything’s all added together, now you can shake it up. The best time to apply the DIY eyelash growth serum is before bed. Once you’ve washed your face, applied your nighttime moisturizer, go ahead and dip a clean mascara wand into the bottle and lightly cover your lashes in the mixture.

When you wake up the next morning, wash the serum off your lashes using water and a makeup remover if necessary. For best results, apply the serum to your lashes at least 2-3 times a week.
