Now that ’90s kids have efficiently freaked out after it was announced that Justin Timberlake is returning to headline the 2018 Super Bowl halftime show, all fans can think about is that one time that he took part in “Nipplegate” — where he accidentally caused the most infamous wardrobe malfunction of all time, flashing Janet Jackson‘s nipple to approximately 143.6 million viewers!

More than 10 years after Janet took the stage with Justin, and essentially coined the term “wardrobe malfunction,” her performance is still the most searched halftime show on the Internet. Everyone remembers where they were when Justin accidentally tore off Janet’s costume, revealing her exposed breast to millions of viewers — causing fans to completely forget that P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock also performed that night. Since then both have apologized for the incident.

“The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals. MTV was completely unaware of it,” she said in a written statement. “It was not my intention that it go as far as it did. I apologize to anyone offended – including the audience, MTV, CBS and the NFL.”

Justin apologized at the 2004 Grammy Awards, saying, “I know it’s been a rough week on everybody. What occurred was unintentional, completely regrettable, and I apologize if you guys were offended.”
