False alarm! Jessica Simpson took to Instagram on Tuesday, Nov. 7, to prove that she didn’t permanently dye her daughter Maxi Drew’s blonde hair brown. In an adorable collage, the five-year-old rocks her naturally bright, platinum locks – just days after she sported brown hair while dressing up as Beauty and the Beast’s Belle for Halloween. Check it out in the video below!

The “Irresistible” songstress, 37 — who also shares son Ace Knute, 4, with husband Eric Johnson — sparked controversy on Oct. 31 when she shared a sweet snap of her family all decked out for Halloween. While the entire foursome looked great, Jessica’s followers were quick to criticize the mom-of-two for allowing Maxi’s hair to be colored in an effort to look more like brunette Belle.

“Is Maxwell’s hair dyed? I hope not. Her blonde hair was so beautiful!!!” one fan wrote, while another asked, “Why would you color your daughter’s hair at such a young age????????????” A third commented, “Please don’t tell me she dyed her daughter’s hair!!”

Well, Jess’ haters can back off because, as it turns out, permanent hair dye never touched Maxi’s gorgeous strands. “It was a spray in color for her costume,” a source told Us Weekly on Monday, Nov. 6, “not permanent dye.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Jessica has been attacked by mommy shamers. Back in May, when Maxi turned five, the Newlyweds alum celebrated the occasion with a mermaid-themed pool party. Jess shared a pic from the birthday bash — for which Maxi dressed as a mermaid, donning a glittering, blue tail and a white bikini top — and was mercilessly slammed for letting her eldest child wear such a “sexy” outfit.

My baby Maxwell is 5 years old today. She makes everyone’s life mermaid magical. Happy Birthday to our fairytale princess. Mommy, Daddy, and Ace love you with our “holy hearts” (as Max would say) #MerMax #MAXIDREW #canyoube5forever

“She’s 5. Put some clothes on her. good grief,” one follower wrote, while another said, “Kinda sad seeing a 5-year-old posing like that…” One individual even claimed that Maxi looked as if she was “trying out for the cover of Playboy.”

Sigh. Can’t this mother-daughter duo live?
