Pros of John Mayer‘s new Instagram show, Current Mood: curbs the Sunday Scaries, hilarious, and Halsey made an appearance on Dec. 2. Cons of Current Mood: none we can think of right now. A few weeks ago, rumors started circulating that John and Halsey were dating after a slew of social media chatter between the two of them. So, was it flirty or platonic? Halsey appeared on Current Mood to, once again, assure fans the two musicians are just friends. Sorry to disappoint!
The two played a game aptly named “Are We Dating.” They answered questions using cue cards they prepared separately. Both singers held up a card that said “no” to answer the first question, “Are we dating?” Duh.
The second question basically asked, “Why?” Now, this part makes us believe that they didn’t actually write their answers without seeing each other’s, but we’ll let you be the judge of that. Halsey and John had written the same answer, again. “The fact that we’re both alpha types, while not prohibitive, would make a romantic relationship difficult,” their cards read. “Especially when compounded by the fact that we’re both highly driven and creative artists who value our independence.”
Well, it doesn’t get much clearer than that. John did ask Halsey if she felt “sad” after other dating rumors got debunked because it was fun to “fake go out” for a while. She laughed and agreed while adding, “I think the worst part is when you debunk a dating rumor and then a little while later you’re like, ‘s—t I might date them!’ and then I look like a f—g liar.” Celebs, they’re just like us. No, no, they’re actually not.
This isn’t the first time Halsey and John shut down romance rumors. When people started getting excited about a possible relationship between them, the 24-year-old singer took to Twitter to defend their friendship. She said, “I just had a groundbreaking idea. What if…we let female artists…have friends…without assuming that they are sleeping together? I know I know. It’s like, completely ambitious but like, imagine if we like, tried?”

She does have a point, but fans can dream, right? For now, they do make very cool friends.
