‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Finale Reveals Jon Snow’s Real Name… And It’s Not What We Were Expecting

“Robert Baratheon’s rebellion was built on a lie.” Have more important words ever been spoken on Game of Thrones? Of course, fans had to wait until almost the end of the finale to have this news revealed to them. It wasn’t a complete surprise. We already knew from the Season 6 finale that Jon was Rhaegar and Lyanna’s son. And we learned this season that Rhaegar and Lyanna were properly married meaning that Jon is not a bastard. The only question thing we were left to wonder was: What is his real Targaryen name?

And if the name “Aegon” sounds familiar to any fans… it should. Not only was it the name of the first Targaryen conqueror, but it was also Rhaegar and Elia Martell’s (his first wife) son’s name. You see, Rhaegar was obsessed with prophecy and believed he needed three children in order to fulfill the “dragon has three heads” prophecy.

Not only was this news years in the making, it also has the possibility to completely change the storyline. And, fans are just as much in shock as the characters will be once Jon’s true identity is revealed. Check out the best fan reactions below:

Now, we know that the true heir to the Iron Throne is Jon Snow… or should we say Aegon Targaryen? We might still keep calling him Jon because, you know, old habits die hard. What will this mean for his and Daenerys Targaryen’s newfound romance? What will this mean for the war to come? We’ll just have to wait until Seaosn 8 to find out!
