Of course, fans had to wait until almost the end of the finale to have this news revealed to them. It wasn’t a complete surprise. We already knew from the Season 6 finale that Jon was Rhaegar and Lyanna’s son. And we learned this season that Rhaegar and Lyanna were properly married meaning that Jon is not a bastard. The only question thing we were left to wonder was: What is his real Targaryen name?

And if the name “Aegon” sounds familiar to any fans… it should. Not only was it the name of the first Targaryen conqueror, but it was also Rhaegar and Elia Martell’s (his first wife) son’s name. You see, Rhaegar was obsessed with prophecy and believed he needed three children in order to fulfill the “dragon has three heads” prophecy.
