Kate Middleton ‘Desperate’ for Prince William to ‘Reconnect’ With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

It was a royal treat. On January 10, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made an unannounced visit to the Pasadena Convention Center, where displaced Californians were sheltering from devastating wildfires.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex served food, made donations (including some used toys from their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3) and met with rescue workers and victims. Though the couple’s own $29 million Montecito mansion escaped the blazes, Harry and Meghan — an L.A. native — were deeply affected by the tragedy. But they had a surprising source of support during the ordeal: the royals. Indeed, an insider tells Life & Style that the January fires seem to have helped thaw the icy relationship between the Sussexes and Harry’s estranged relatives, including King Charles III and Prince William.

“Most of Harry’s family checked in. Princess Kate was in touch on behalf of her and William — which is huge,” says the insider. “It’s no secret Harry has been putting out feelers to end the rift, and Harry and Meghan were incredibly touched by Kate’s gesture.”

Kate — who shared on January 13 that her cancer is now in remission — has been pushing for a reconciliation for a while. “For her, life is too short to keep on carrying grudges,” explains the insider. “The feeling is, the royals may now be willing to put their bitter feud with Harry and Meghan to an end, once and for all.”

Moving forward won’t be easy; there are still a lot of big emotions on both sides. Harry left royal life five years ago, feeling he and Meghan, 43, had been mistreated by his father, 76, and brother, 42. Meanwhile, the royals are still reeling from Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, in which the prince detailed his alleged grievances for the world to read.

But Harry, 40, is now headed back to the U.K. The bestselling author will reportedly return soon amid his legal battle with News Group Newspapers, which he claims used unlawful tactics to gather info about his family — and the overseas trip presents an opportunity to reunite with the royals.

If that goes well, there’s a good chance the Waleses and Sussexes could meet up in the U.S. when William and Kate, 43, go stateside to launch their Royal Foundation charity in America. “Kate sees the charity as common ground with Harry and Meghan, and she is desperate for all of them to reconnect,” shares the insider. “She knows the best way for that to happen is for the four of them to sit down and make peace.”

A lot still has to happen, of course, but at least now everyone seems open to the prospect. Says the insider: “The days of the two couples gunning for each other seem to have come to an end, or so people hope.”
