Kelsea Ballerini Breaks Silence on Chase Stokes Breakup for the First Time, Calls Out ‘Speculators’
Kelsea Ballerini has something to say — and it’s directed at the “speculators.”
The country star broke her silence on her split from Chase Stokes with a pointed TikTok video posted September 24. In the clip, she sips a Celsius, rests her head in her hand, and lets Ariana Grande’s song “Shut Up” play in the background. The caption read: “cc: speculators, ‘sources,’ and hidden cameras outside the hair salon. let us be. please.”
Her post came days after her rep confirmed to People that she and the Outer Banks actor had called it quits after nearly three years together. “They’re two adults who gave it their all and tried to do everything they could to make it work, but ultimately couldn’t. It happens,” sources told the outlet.
The breakup stunned fans, especially since the couple appeared happier than ever just days before. On September 12, Chase celebrated Kelsea’s birthday with a heartfelt Instagram tribute, writing: “Although you keep saying you’re not excited for 32, I’d say I’m lookin’ forward to more of this. Happy birthday my love.” He paired the message with a carousel of sweet memories, including a cozy New York Knicks game, a private jet selfie and even a playful photo of their shadows flipping the bird.

But within 48 hours, the tone shifted dramatically. Instead of ushering in a new year with her boyfriend by her side, Kelsea found herself stepping into her single girl era.
Rumors of trouble had already been swirling before the official announcement. Fans noticed that Kelsea quietly scrubbed several photos of Chase from her Instagram, sparking whispers online. At the time, Chase appeared to dismiss the chatter by posting a sweet shot of her dog, Dibs — but in hindsight, fans weren’t reading too much into it.
Since debuting their romance at the CMT Awards in April 2023, Kelsea and Chase weren’t shy about showing off their love. From glamorous red carpets to casual date nights, the pair often gave fans glimpses of their relationship. Still, Chase insisted that much of their bond remained private.
“Sometimes it feels like maybe it’s an oversharing situation, or maybe there’s a lot of details,” he told E! News last September. “But I truthfully believe that my personal life is really, really private. For the most part, I still feel like I have a really good grasp on my privacy.”
